Topic1: Rise in tuition fee

Position one: On this side of the issue is the school's deans and president who make the decision of increasing tuition fee in order to help provide good services to students.

Real Interest: There are people who believe that education would not be difficult if adequate services are provide to help the students.

Position two: This side would be sponors of the students and also students who are frustrated of the increase because some of the services provided and charged to the tuition are not used by the students based on the class scheduled.

Real Interest: They would like to be charged based on the services consumed by them.

Why it interests me: As an international student, I know what is like to pay a huge amount of money as tuition fee. Also, from the other side, I see that the school is trying to provide the best for their students. I would like to argue on this paper.

Topic2: Underage drinking

Position one: This would be the counselors that evaluated the reasons young teens drink. They do not know the consequences of what the law in the society would put them through and they are speaking up for the teenagers.

Real Interest: They want to let the society understand that the young teens are not at fault but to blame the guardians or parents of the teenagers.

Position two: This would be the government that knows what the influence of alcohol does to young teens.

Real Interest: Providing strict laws that would keep young teens from drinking and keeping the society safe.

Why it interests me: Nowadays, I see teenagers drink especially in public without any restrictions for their attutide. They believe that they have equal right as the adults to drink. I am interested in this topic to because I want to know the cause of the teens attutide and how it can be prevented.

Topic3: Transportation in Houston

Position one: This side of the issue is based on the passengers because of the bad public transport provide in Houston. The services are not trusted. Transportation cannot be provided without it costing too much.

Real Interest: Passengers want services that can be reliable and cheap.

Position two: On this side of the issue is the government would provide the transportation services to the society. The government want to protect the society and keep them out of danger and uncomfortable suitations at bus stations.

Real Interest: Provide better service for the society

Why it interests me: I take the transportation (Metro) always. I believe that as student, transportation should be provided at a cheap rate. But I still get to pay the fare as other business passengers. In Houston, I have to stand at the Metro stop for complete 2 hours before the bus shows up. But as it states in the Metro schedule, the bus comes every 15 mins. Also, the Metro stand should be built with sun protection and most of the stands do not have seats. I want to know the reasons why the transportation in Houston is so bad and different from New York city.

This source in the Oregonian reveals a counselor Ann Miller in West Linn High School who explained the reasons teenagers drink and how it is caused. Miller also answered questions directed to her by the parents. The editorial also helped me to support my position how to negotiate between the governments who made strict laws to limit underage drinking.

This editorial in the Houston Chronicle states the measure aims to stop midnight bar binges when people turn 21 and legal penalties of underage alcohol consumption. The editorial is directly not only to the parents and students involved but to the whole public. This editorial provides me the reasons against underage drinking.

This source not only reveals the consequences of underage drinking. It states that underage drinking can cause brain damage to the developing human brain. This is proved by the research done in the process. This editorial provides me the reasons against underage drinking.

ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY

I used this article because it helped my argument that gun ownership should be legalized but with several background checks from the government and that gun control laws should be enforced.

This is the Bill of rights, the second amendment. This says that the citizens have right to own guns but not the right to kill each other. I used this to support my argument on the reasons we need gun control laws.

Bill Fuller, says, "The safe, personal possession of firearms is a highly honored tradition here and so far, there is not a highly compelling need for gun-control laws." This is a strong point that I would likely want to stress on in my argument because it supported gun ownership but not gun control. This means that since gun possession is allowed with no control, the state would be at risk.

Thesis: Citizens should undergo several background checks and testing before possession of guns is authorized.

REASONS

Audience’s belief system: Guns should be owned at some extent.
Special rules or principles: The Second Amendment gives right to bear arms.
Expert opinion and hard evidence: People favor reasonable laws as long as they're enforced reasonably.
Tradition: Guns can still be kept as collections for decorations.
Comparison: If no gun control, guns can easily be purchased and even end up in the hands of the criminals.
Probability or likely: It is likely that gun ownership would decrease with the necessary procedures so that it would not end up in the wrong hands.
Cause and effect: The procedures followed would help the audience feel safe that they would not be victims to any gun accidents.
Definition: Citizens are allowed to bear arms with proper procedures.


EVALUATING REASONS
The best reasons I could use for my paper are: special rules or principles, expert opinion and hard evidence, cause and effect and comparison.

Argument to Convince Thesis

Thesis: The government should stop gun ownership and make strict gun control.

Audience: My audience would be groups of innocent people who are victims of gun accidents. Age, gender and race do not make any difference. They would be from several economic statuses, be it rich or poor. They would oppose gun ownership with procedures legalized by the government, but believe that the government should make strict laws on gun control. Also, they would place great value on their lives since they are victims of gun accidents.

Aims: The audience may see the reasons why strict gun control is a good thing than no gun control, due to their experiences. I need to remove the words ‘stop’ and ‘strict’ completely and broaden it more because it sounds too extreme. To say strict gun control is insane because they would definitely need guns for protection. I need to use legalize or authorize for gun ownership.

Revised Thesis:

1.The government should regulate gun ownership and keep the society safe off guns.

It does not convince the audience on how gun control can be handled.

2.Gun ownership should be allowed to some extent while enforcing gun control to keep the citizens safe.

This does not sound convincing because methods of acquiring guns are not clarified.

3.Citizens should undergo several background checks and testing before possession of guns is authorized.

It sounds convincing to the audience since gun ownership can be authorized and still
handles gun control.

Revision

1. The purpose of this paragraph is to express my opinions on gun control and how restriction of gun possession can affect the society.

2. I want the readers to be able to understand that the thought of gun control cannot be looked as a solution to gun violence. I also want my readers to understand my stand on the issue of gun control.

Revision

We take gun control as the only way we can solve the problem of gun violence. I suggest we look into the issue gun control causes. The issue of gun ownership is usually based on the crime rate in the society. This limits us to looking at gun control as the only solution to gun violence. Like an idiom says, “ the cause brings about the effect,” which shows that gun control brings about gun violence. For example, the laws restrict gun control but the society feels that the ownership of guns keeps them safer and also for different purposes of gun. In societies with strict gun controls are in the high rate of crimes. The society has different views on gun control, which leads to violence because most of the societies do not support gun control and some do.

This leaves us with the question: “ What is the main solution to gun ownership?”

Original

I believe that there should be no gun control in the society because it can bring about chaos in the society. Half of the society will be suggesting about gun control and others will not and this can lead to chaos and disorganized society. I did not grow around guns and know nothing much about it but I believe that anybody that possesses a gun has an important purpose of it. If there is strict gun control laws in the society, it leads to violence in the society because people can go to any extent to posses a gun even to the extent of obtaining it illegally which also leads to high increase of fraud in the society. If the government highly wants to restrict the possession of guns in America, the black market should be closed because there is no way civilians without license will not obtain guns.

3. I have learnt to revise my writings. One of the things I do is not having deep thoughts and questions of my opinions. But this has really helped me to think of my ideas and see where I stand on my opinions.

Guns in America

When it comes to guns, I do not know anything because I was not raised around them or even near them. I can tell you that with the media and from what I have read from the newspapers, that the guns in the hands of unworthy persons are getting off hand.

The purpose for the invention of guns was to help make things easier during hunting of animals and also for the protection of people to prevent excess crime. The guns are only to be carried by the law officers. But, due to the development of the country and the introduction of technology, the purpose and the use of guns have deviated from its original purpose. Take for instance, many people in a particular neighborhood can carry guns in their pocket and just use them any time to kill or threaten people in any situation. These are the necessary information that one needs to look into and look for a better solution.

The legalization of guns in the America has a lot of benefits but as everything in this world, there are always advantages and disadvantages. Unfortunately, the disadvantages are the ones we most likely witness in our everyday life. In the media, newspaper or even on the Internet, different varieties of gun incidents tend to be the cause of the day. If it is not the murder of a victim, it is either the use of guns to threaten people into surrendering for a particular action that the offender has in mind: either rape or theft.

I am not trying to say that the use of guns in the America is bad but come to think of it what is really happening in this world we are living in when we talk of protecting our lives with the weapon that can serve as a means to successful protection. Nowadays, there are several news been heard about kids who shot classmate or schoolmate. The question is “Where do all these kids get all these guns in their possession?” Most of the guns are from home. Some students were brought up with guns. By then, they know were the guns are being kept, whether in the closet or in the shoe box. What are all these guns doing in the closet or in the bedroom dresser or under the pillow? This is the question, I believe, we should be asking ourselves. For the answer to this question I cannot say but everyone can answer to the question according to his or her own point of view.

As for me, I believe that Civilians tend to purchase guns for protection. This is the protection as regards to life and property. Although there are police officers or the law regulators who are supposed to be the carriers of these guns, it is not the same case in this new computer age. What do you think will happen when everyone is carrying a gun? I cannot even begin to imagine what the consequences will be. I shudder whenever I start to think about the damage that may tend to incur. Or what will happen when the guns fall into the hands of the wrong person? I will not go into answering that because I believe everyone knows the answer to the question: terrorism, nightmares and frequent death incidents.

You may begin to think that through out the paper, I have been writing about the dangers of guns and its disadvantages and you start to ask; Are there no good thing about guns? Certainly, there are a lot of very good benefits of having guns. One of them is that gun is used in sports. Take for instance, it is used to notify swimmers when to start swimming contest or even the athlete when to start their race. Also guns are used for hunting activities. The hunters have a particular gun type to use during hunting. Guns also are used to protect people during office work, as we all know. These and many more are the benefits we value guns.

Finally, I will like to say that indeed guns in the America have been a major problem that needs further study and more survey to see what people actually think about the use of guns.
